Finding The Shot
People often tell me, “There’s nothing to shoot around here.” It’s not true. A trip through the backyard, seen here in the ‘Shot from the Hip’ category to date–I think–can yield dozens of intriguing snaps. And without a lot of fancy macro gear. I’ve been shooting for about 7 years, and some of the best macro results I achieve are with a tired Canon Power Shot S400. I suppose a lot of the nature I shoot draws its roots from architectural photography. Though I’m not sure who wrote it, I read somewhere one can add visual interest to shooting buildings by focusing on details: brickwork, millwork, mosaic, iron. That holds true to a lot of what I shoot. Close enough, a rosebud or a single leaf can produce enough visual nooks and crannies to keep my eye working for hours over a single image. Try it. Go outside and shoot your backyard. Send me what you find.
